TWENTY-SEVENTH OF MAY

FEAST OF SAINT AUGUSTINE OF CANTERBURY

ENGLAND

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

Alleluia, alleluia!

The Lord has sent me

to bring the good news to the poor,

to proclaim liberty to captives.

Alleluia!

GOSPEL READING

LUKE 10:1-9

A READING FROM THE HOLY GOSPEL ACCORDING TO LUKE

(THE HARVEST IS RICH BUT THE LABOURERS ARE FEW.)

The Lord appointed seventy-two others

and sent them out ahead of him, in pairs,

to all the towns and places he himself was to visit.

He said to them,

“The harvest is rich but the labourers are few,

so ask the Lord of the harvest

to send labourers to his harvest.

Start off now, but remember,

I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.

Carry no purse, no haversack, no sandals.

Salute no one on the road.

Whatever house you go into, let your first words be,

‘Peace to this house!’

And if a man of peace lives there,

your peace will go and rest on him;

if not, it will come back to you.

Stay in the same house,

taking what food and drink they have to offer,

for the labourer deserves his wages;

do not move from house to house.

Whenever you go into a town where they make you welcome,

eat what is set before you.

Cure those in it who are sick, and say,

‘The kingdom of God is very near to you’.”

The Gospel of the Lord.

R.) Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

WHEN IT IS A MEMORIAL

Alleluia alleluia!

I am the good shepherd, says the Lord;

I know my own sheep

and my own know me.

Alleluia!

WHEN IT IS A MEMORIAL

MATTHEW 9:35-37

A READING FROM THE HOLY GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MATTHEW

(WHEN HE SAW THE CROWDS HE FELT SORRY FOR THEM.)

Jesus made a tour through all the towns and villages,

teaching in their synagogues,

proclaiming the Good News of the kingdom

and curing all kinds of diseases and sickness.

And when he saw the crowds he felt sorry for them

because they were harassed and dejected,

 like sheep without a shepherd.

Then he said to his disciples,

“The harvest is rich but the labourers are few,

so ask the Lord of the harvest

to send labourers into the harvest.”

The Gospel of the Lord.

R.) Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

PRAYER OVER THE OFFERINGS

Grant our supplication,

we pray, almighty God,

that with these sacrificial offerings

 of your people,

which we bring on the Feast of

Saint Augustine,

you will graciously mingle

the gifts of heaven.

Through Christ our Lord.

R.) Amen.

COMMUNION ANTIPHON

O chosen people,

proclaim the mighty works of him

who called you out of darkness,

into his wonderful light,

alleluia.

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

As we rejoice at the feast day of

Saint Augustine

we have received the pledge

of eternal redemption,

O Lord,

and we pray that it may be of help to us

both now and for the life to come.

Through Christ our Lord.

R.) Amen.
