THE THOUGHTS OF GOD AND THOSE OF MAN

How different are the thoughts of God from those of man!

A person is often greatly esteemed

because of his exterior,

the richness of his garments

or the elegance of his manners.

Our vision extends no further

than the bark of the tree.

We give alms,

perhaps to the beggar whom we meet,

but our glance does not rest for a moment

on his rags;

we pass on…

How consoling to know

that it is otherwise in heaven!

God sees the heart; the bark is nothing to Him.

You are poor,

badly dressed!

But your soul is pure.

Oh! you are rich in the eyes of God!

You lack exterior beauty!

But your soul is pure.

Oh! you are beautiful in the eyes of God!

Preserve the Christian virtues,

the garments of the soul;

preserve your innocence;

keep God within you.

If men do not always appreciate

these great things

at their proper value,

there is in heaven a Judge essentially just.

He sees you,

poor soul,

He blesses you,

He is waiting for you!
